RE "Mini" Carnival September 11, 2011Join us on Sunday, September 11, 2011 to kick of the new RE year by reflecting on our summers and preparing our hearts to say hello to the new RE year and activities! Face painting and more!! RE Mentor/Leader ProgramYouth ages 6th grade and up are invited to be mentors/leaders in the RE program. AND youth are encouraged to participate in monthly meetings after church service with pizza and a topic to discuss issues important to them. The first Youth meeting will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 after church. The topic is "how music impacts our lives." Youth should bring their MP3 players with music of their choice. Future discussion topics are selected by the youth members. Let the good times roll!! Religious Education (a.k.a Sunday School)Tammy Mills is OUUC's Religious Education Coordinator. She has a BS in Education from Ball State University and a M.Div from Anderson University School of Theology. She pastored several United Methodist churches in northern Indiana. She also pastored at the Metropolitan Community Church in Indianapolis. Feeling the spirit was calling her in other directions she left the ministry to spend more time at home with her partner Nancy Craig and their three children Grace, 11, Maddie, 10, and Wesley, 3. She took a teaching position at the Early Learning Centers in Lawrence Township. She has worked for Lawrence Township for the past 4 years in different educational capacities. Tammy is excited to build on the strong foundation that exists at OUUC. For the 2011-12 RE year, we will have two groups of study. One younger (approximately age 3 through 1st grade) and one older (2nd grade through 5th grade). The younger group will be exploring the OUUC and UU mission statements. The older group will be studying how the world we live in is connected to the global world in many ways. Our youth 6th grade and up will be invited to work as mentor/leaders in the RE program. Additionally they will have a monthly gathering where they can discuss issues important to them. These monthly meetings will be held after church service with pizza and a theme determined by the group members. At OUUC, the children are encouraged to be themselves, express their thoughts and feelings, and most importantly develop their beliefs with knowledge and information from many sources. One rule at OUUC is that everyone's ideas are respected. Our growing congregation respects and appreciates the strong history of this church and its beautiful sanctuary and building. And yet the programs and religious education at OUUC are fun and innovative. If you have any questions about the program you can contact Tammy at any time at 317-698-3445 or email religiouseducation@oaklandonuu.org. You can fill out the registration form (See side bar at left) and email it to religiouseducation@oaklandonuu.org or simply bring it with you on Sunday! Come check us out! Indianapolis, IN |
