OCT Presents: Indy Playmakers Do It Again!

March 28-30 and April 4-6, 2008.

It's rare these days that burgeoning playwrights can get their work heard by people other than their family, friends and close associates. Oaklandon Civic Theatre provides such a venue for one such group: Indy Playmakers. Two years ago they gave you "April Foolishness: An Evening of One Act Plays". These delightful short plays were written by seven of the Indy Playmekers including Alice Caroline, Marsha Grant, Claudia Labin, Jayne Marek, Bob McClure, Pat McGeever and Robert Morse.

This year "Indy Playmakers Do It Again" is the theme of the evening. Eight plays will be produced chosen out of the many fine plays submitted for consideration. We expect the evening to be as enjoyable and entertaining this time as it was last. Check the link on the left panel OCT Presents: Playmakers Do It Again to see the titles and descriptions of our eight plays.

This year's performance is supported by the Rachel McGeever Fund under the direction of the Indiana Theatre Association. Rachel was a wonderful supporter of the arts and this fund honors her memory by continuing the support of projects she cared about deeply.

The Oaklandon Civic Theatre is fast becoming known as an entertainment destination with the complete package: good theatre in a fabulous setting with a delicious and enjoyable intermission. OCT is the place to be for good entertainment on the east side of Indy!

As always, call 317-823-4761, ext. 3 for more informaiton and to reserve those seats!

Oaklandon Civic Theatre Presents: 84 Charing Cross Road

It was a beautiful story, a true story, and in an extraordinary way, a love story. And it was beautifully presented by the Oaklandon Civic Theatre. The production of 84 Charing Cross Road was produced as part of the Indianapolis Spirit and Place Festival the theme of which was "Living Generously."

The plot: In 1949 Helene Hanff (played by OUUC member Donna Wing), a struggling but ambitiouis New York City playwright with an uncanny love of rare books, placed an order with an obscure London bookshop located at 84 Charing Cross Road. Its manager, Frank Doel (played by OUUC member Stephan Viehweg), responded promptly with a volume by Robert Louis Stevenson. Thus began a 20-year deep and abiding friendship. What was unique about this relationship is that it took place entirely at a distance of three thousand miles, and flourished solely through the exachange of letters.

The production boasted a themed intermission which included either American or English refreshments. Bonnie May and Christine Furgeson were the masterminds behind this very much revered intermission.

The Oaklandon Civic Theatre is fast becoming known as an entertainment destination with the complete package: good theatre in a fabulous setting with a delicious and enjoyable intermission. Watch for details on our next production in spring 2008.

As always, call 317-823-4761, ext 3 for more information and reserve those tickets!

The OUUC banner was crafted by our own, very talented Betty LaFara. The banner was carried by Blaire Viehweg in the Parade of Banners at the UUA General Assembly in Portland, Oregon in June 2007.
